The Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon, mainly known as the Knights Templar, were a French military order of the Catholic faith, and one of the wealthiest and most popular military orders in Western Christianity. They were formed in 1118 to defend pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem, with their headquarters located there on the Temple Mount, and existed for nearly two centuries during the Middle Ages

The Knights Templar feature heavily in modern popular culture through fictional embellishments in popular novels such as Ivanhoue and The Da Vinci Code and modern movies such as National Treasure, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, as well as video games such as Assassins Creed, There have been speculative popular publications surrounding the order's early occupation of the Temple Mount, in Jerusalem as well as speculation about what relics and treasures the Templars may have found there, The association of the Holy Grail, and the Ark of the Covenant with which the Templars are reputedly been in the control of, and hidden after the fall of the holy Lands. However the truth may be distanced from the myths and fables.
